Thinking Spaces: Mystery Cello Presentation with Matt Brubeck

Please join us for the final 2012/13 meeting of the Thinking Spaces Reading Group on April 12, 2013 at the public library at 100 Norfolk at 3-5pm. Our last guest presenter for the year will be internationally acclaimed cellist and educator, Matt Brubeck.

Mystery Cello Presentation?!

Matt Brubeck will be leading a discussion about an unusual cello recording. There will be no advance distribution of this musical offering, so bring your ears and join the improvised dialogue.

Matt Brubeck is a JUNO award -winning performer/composer specializing in improvisation on the cello. Raised on jazz and classically trained at Yale, Matt is at ease in multiple genres and has taken his cello improvisation skills into diverse musical territories. Matt’s current projects include Stretch Orchestra (with Kevin Breit and Jesse Stewart), Ugly Beauties (with Marilyn Lerner and Nick Fraser), and Brubeck Braid (with David Braid). In addition to his jazz/improvising work, Matt has had many eclectic musical adventures including working with such diverse artists as Tom Waits, Pamela Z, and Yo-Yo Ma. He currently teaches a variety of courses/ensembles at York University and Humber College.

There is a curious yet enormously fruitful duality in the way that improvisation plays on our expectations and perspectives.
