Ron East, founder/director of the School of Physical Theatre in London UK, and Toronto, is a producer, director and playwright with thirty-five years in the professional theatre. Ron trained in physical theatre at the Ecole Internationale de Theatre Jacques Lecoq in Paris.

An actor at the Stratford Shakespearean Festival and the National Arts Centre, he has performed across North America and in Europe. Ron operated his own production company for 20 years, has written and produced 18 plays. He is also a dramaturge, developing pieces internationally.

Ron did his MA at the Drama Centre at the University of Toronto, and is presently doing his PhD at the University of Guelph. He is also writing the second part of his book, ‘Moving Images: Towards a Theatre of Creation’.

So one of the things that improvisation has come to mean in the context of highly technological performance is that improvisation is the last claim to the legitimate presence of a human in the performance of music.
