Joane Hétu

(b. 1958)
Joane Hétu came to music through rock, and concentrates her musical efforts on voice and alto sax. Hétu’s acoustic experiments often emulate electronic textures, without using electronics. Since the mid-1990s, Hétu has focused on abstract composition in works that combine text, texture and vocal experiments. She has played in avant-garde groups such as Wondeur Brass, Justine, Les Poules, Castor et Compagnie, and Nous Perçons les Oreilles. Hétu is one of the founders of the Ambiances Magnétiques label, co-director of the concert production company Productions SuperMusique, and president of the DAME distribution service, which she founded in 1991 and whose catalogue now offers over 600 CDs of new music.
