Please join us for the next meeting of the Thinking Spaces Reading Group on March 22, 2013. We will be returning to our usual location at the public library at 100 Norfolk at our usual time, 3-5pm. This week will feature a Graduate Student Colloquium, with PhD students Greg Fenton and Brian Lefresne from the University of Guelph School of English and Theatre Studies, and DMA Candidate Ian Sinclair from the Faculty of Music at the University of Toronto.

Our guest speaker will be Mark Laver, a postdoctoral fellow with ICASP at the University of Guelph. Laver's talk will discuss his work, "Freedom of Choice: Jazz, Neocolonialism, and the case of Jazz at Lincoln Centre Doha".

Project Director Ajay Heble was warmly received by a full house of enthusiastic listeners at Kitchener's Tannery Event Centre. Heble, who presented a talk, "Improvisation will be at the core of sustainable communities and unprecedented change," was joined by Donna Kotsopolous (Wilfrid Laurier), Andrew Pelling (Ottawa), and Amir Khajepour (Waterloo).

ICASP has now announced its call for applications to the Improvisation, Community, and Social Practice Postdoctoral Fellowship Program 2013-2014. Applications must be submitted by April 30th, 2013. The School of English and Theatre Studies at the University of Guelph is pleased to offer a special workshop on "Improvisation and Community" led by Joe Sorbara this Wednesday (January 16, 2013) from 8:30-10:00 in Lower Massey at the University of Guelph. The workshop is open to all University and Guelph community members and there is no admission charge.

On Thursday, January 24th, 2013 ICASP Project Director Ajay Heble will take part in the new McMaster University lecture series, the McMaster Seminar on Higher Education. Featuring lecturers who invoke timely questions of intellectual work and community engagement, in 2013 the McMaster Seminar on Higher Education will invite an international roster of noted speakers to address the university and the broader community about important social issues, including Ajay Heble (University of Guelph), Diana Brydon (University of Manitoba), and Angela Davis (UCLA, Santa Cruz).
