"Envisioning Improvisation as Social Practice" theme of inaugural Summer Institute

The University of Guelph is hosting the inaugural edition of its biennial Summer Institute for Critical Studies in Improvisation. Over the course of two weeks, an international group of scholars and graduate students will come together to attend lectures and develop their research in the field of Improvisation Studies.

Ajay Heble continues recovery in Guelph

Ajay Heble, Improvisation, Community, and Social Practice project director, is continuing his recovery at his home in Guelph from the heart attack he suffered on May 26. He returned to Guelph on June 7.Ellen Waterman, the University of Guelph site coordinator, will continue as acting project director. Further decisions regarding project leadership will be made once there is a clearer prognosis of Dr. Heble’s treatment.

Ajay HebleAjay Heble, Improvisation, Community, and Social Practice project director, suffered a heart attack on Monday, May 26 during a return flight from Paris where he was presenting a paper on the project at a conference. He was attended to by physicians and nurses who were on his flight. The airplane made an emergency landing in Goose Bay, Labrador, where he was transferred to hospital. He is now in stable condition.

Comin' Out Swingin'- Symposium & Concerts

Coastal Jazz & Blues Society is pleased to announce Comin' Out Swingin': Sexuality in Improvisation, the first symposium of its kind in Western Canada. The symposium is presented in partnership with the Department of English at the University of British Columbia, St. John's College, UBC and "Improvisation, Community, and Social Practice," a Social Sciences and Humanities Research Council of Canada Major Collaborative Research Initiative. The events will take place November 16-17 from 9 am to 5 pm at St. John's College.
