ICASP welcomes creative input of new partner, RENDER

Speculate, incubate, innovate, cultivate, and create are the catchwords of RENDER, ICASP’s latest partner. Based at the University of Waterloo, RENDER was established in 2006 with the goal of shifting the focus of the university’s art gallery away from a traditional public gallery model to a more innovative and relevant approach that positions art, design, critical thought, and creative research in a much broader context.

RENDER will contribute to the design and implementation of ICASP research through its DodoLab model by running creative labs in collaboration with, and in response to, the work of other ICASP partners and researchers. Through DodoLab, RENDER will produce documentation in a variety of unconventional formats as well as written reviews and public presentations to share and disseminate research.

Improvisation is, simply put, being and living this very moment. No one can hide in music, and improvising in music is to be truly in this very moment and being completely yourself, with all your qualities and faults. It is probably the most honest state for a human being to be in.

– John McLaughlin in an interview with Daniel Fischlin.
